Google Classroom will be our new online learning platform starting for the 2015-2016 school year. It will help me create, assign, and collect student classwork and homework paperlessly. With Google Classroom, I can seamlessly integrate Google Docs, Google Drive, and Gmail to create assignments.
It will allow me the opportunity to provide feedback for in progress and completed work, communicate online with students directly through class announcements. Students can work on assignments in Google Docs and turn it in with a few clicks.
When I create assignments, folders are automatically created in Google Drive for each student. I can choose to share a single document (like project instructions), or automatically make a copy for each student (like a project template). This process allows me to see who has completed the work at a glance and assign grades accordingly. Students can easily see due dates on their assignments page, so they can stay organized and submit work on time. Best of all, as a parent, you can check out what we're doing in class, anytime, from the comfort of your own home.
In addition to Google Classroom, students will be required to check daily announcements, both at the beginning and end of the day. For student to view them, they will need to be signed into their district issued Google account. Please click this link to view said announcements.
Since 2014, we have used Typing Club to prepare students for the their annual PARCC state exam and the rigors of highschool. This program does a tremendous job providing me with data to help them improve their skills. Students begin by taking a series of lessons and tests which progressively get more difficult. Upon completion, the program provides student with feedback that will help them as they move forward. Each student must get a level 4 or 5 to advance. PARCC requirements have students typing at a specific rate of speed and accuracy, so our goal is to help get them as close to that as possible. Typing Club is accessible from your devices at home, so please encourage your child to work on their typing skills if they have some free time. To sign up for your Typing Club account, pleaseclick here. You will then need to enter the password given to you by Mr. Poole.
Grading: Your typing grade will consist of 500 pts per quarter, and will be based on the best test results up to the end of each quarter. Each quarter will build upon itself. If you have any questions after seeing the rubric, please contact me asap. To view the grading scale / rubric for each quarter's typing requirements, please clcik here.
