Project Educational Goals

The curriculum web will be for 7 & 8th grade students in my Technology in Society class.  The goal of this lesson is to incorporate all major areas of the NETS Standards (creativity / innovation, communication, research & information fluency, critical thinking / problem solving, digital citizenship skills, & tech operations / concepts).

See standards & students outcomes to the left.  This activity/project is geared to prepare learners with the skills that they will need for life outside of school.

  • Students will break up into groups, assign roles (specific job description that each member is responsible for, and manage it accordingly), and download GIP permit form & rubric (students are expected to refer to the rubric as they complete this project).

  • Students will keep detailed journal notes, which will be emailed to the instructor daily.

  • Students will practice appropriate digital citizenship applications & correct classroom behaviors.

  • Students will brainstorm ideas for their project, complete their group’s contact information, research local demographics, and compile information on their permit form.

  • Students will communicate electronically through the iPad & in person with both group members and instructor.

  • Students will research & maintain a list of resources necessary for construction.

  • Students will maintain and back up (through email, Dropbox, or Google Docs) necessary documents which can be viewed by the instructor at any time.

  • Students will draw a sketch that will represent their supplies used (quantities), size / dimensions, and what their final model will resemble.

  • Students will bring in supplies, which they will use to fabricate a model of their device.

  • Students will present their model to the class, and be graded from the rubric they downloaded.

  • Students will complete a project evaluation.
