When Stuff Happens

Genesis 50:19,20 But Joseph said to them, “Don’t be afraid. Am I in the place of God? You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.

Since this is the end of the story let me fill you in on the major points of it. It begins in Genesis 37. Jacob the son of Isaac had twelve sons, and one of his sons was named Joseph the daughter of Rebekah Jacob’s favorite wife. Because of Jacob showing favoritism to Joseph and his brother Benjamin, Joseph’s brothers hated him. After he told his brothers that God had given him a dream where they and his father and mother would bow down to him they decided to kill him. Instead of killing him they sold him to some traders going to Egypt where he was sold as a slave. The man he was sold to had a wife that lied about him trying to rape her and he was put in prison. Things were not going well for him to say the least! But God had a plan for him to bring about the fulfillment of a promise God made to Abraham in making his descendants into a great nation. (Gen 121:1-3 & Gen 15:12)

One of my favorite verses that I have had since I first became a Christian is Romans 8:28. It says, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. The reason this seemed so special to me was because I seem to continually need the Lord to fix the messes I get myself into. And like Joseph it’s not always my fault. As Forest Gump might say,”Stuff happens.” Creation has a freedom about it too! Tree limbs fall down, it rains and water comes in the basement, moles come in your yard and etc. Stuff happen to all of us. Sometimes it’s much worse than other times, but stuff happens.

The thing is that when we ask Jesus into our heart, he not only does that but he is there to help us with the stuff. He will help us to fix it, get through it and he will even help keep it away if we ask him. All we have to do is ask! What a great God and Savior we have in Jesus! Remember we have not because we ask not. (James 4:2) Relief is just a prayer away.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank you for helping out when stuff happens to us. Whether we have caused it or not, you are always so willing to do what needs to be done to help and bless us. Thank you for doing this! We love you Jesus!
