The Tree of Life
Genesis 3:22 And the Lord God said, “The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever.
Once again we see evidence of the plurality or Trinity of the Godhead. God refers to himself as us. We can see the modern day example this in that United States has one government and has three branches within that one government. Spiritually there is one God that is made up of the Heavenly Father, Jesus the Son and the Holy Spirit. Some have asked me if it is alright to pray to all three, and I personally feel that there is no reason why we can not. They have all had a part in our salvation and love us.
The next question to deal with is the aspect of God not allowing Adam and Eve to continue to eat from the tree of life once they had sinned. It all comes down to the eternal presence of humanity, and that God is just and sin must be punished. God could not punish Adam and Eve, but punish Satan and the powers of darkness. This is why II Samuel 14:14 tells us that, “God does not take away life; instead, he devises ways so that a banished person may not remain estranged from him.” This is way I Peter 1:20 tells us that Jesus was chosen before creation. Humanity would need a Savior if they could be reconciled with God, but this would mean that Adam and Eve would have to die just as God warned them if they would eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Only through death could humanity have a chance for eternal life with God. Humanity’s opportunity for forgiveness and eternal life would come at a great cost for God. While we were dead in our sins Jesus brought life. This is why we can say as Paul said in I Cor 15:55,56, “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death , is your sting?” the sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. The law demanded our death, but the grace and mercy of God brought forgiveness and eternal life through the atonement of God’s Son Jesus Christ.
Prayer: Thank you Lord Jesus for doing for us what we couldn’t do for our self.
