I Will Be Honored
Leviticus 10:3 Moses then said to Aaron, “This is what the Lord spoke of when he said: “ ‘ Among those who approach me I will show myself holy; in the sight of all the people I will be honored’.” Aaron remained silent.
This was a very sad and sobering time for Aaron and his family. God had just killed two of his sons that were consecrated as priests for the Lord. What had happened was that Nadab and Abihu took unauthorized fire before the Lord and they didn’t think it mattered. They were to take burning coals from the brazen altar where there had been sacrifices for the sins of the people and for them, and they were to deposit the incense upon the coals to bring forth the smoke that would represent prayers going up to God on behalf of the people.
Why would God kill them for seemingly such a small detail? You see it really wasn’t the coals as much as they dishonored God by not doing it as God wanted it done. They knew the correct way it was to be done, and they deliberately didn't do it. They arrogantly thought that because they were two out of five chosen to be priests for the Lord, that the Lord wouldn’t dare harm them. Wrong! When we dishonor someone it always has a bad outcome. We see this in the book of Esther. When Queen Vashti dishonored King Xerxes he made Esther his new queen. Mordecai showed a royal official to the king dishonor, and it almost cost the entire Jewish race their lives.
Bringing dishonor to God is being done on a daily basis throughout the world, but even worse it is even done purposely in some Christian denominations. Within the last twenty years there has been compromised in holiness, doctrine, passion and sad to say that some have come to proclaim that there are many ways to find forgiveness of our sins and eternal life with God in heaven besides Jesus!
Jesus said in Matt 24:24 that there would be false prophets that would appear and perform great signs and miracles to deceive even the elect - if that were possible. In II Timothy 4:3,4 it says, “For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.
Then in John 14:6 Jesus says, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
People with all kinds of impressive titles and letters behind their name can say all they want, but if it doesn’t agree with God’s Word in the Bible it is only a lie from the pit of hell. Just because something sounds good, it has good intentions, many believe it to be so, or a famous person says something because it is popular or socially correct doesn’t make it so with the one that matters most and this is God himself. Study God’s word to show yourself approved, so you won’t be found lacking when you stand before God on Judgment Day! Trust in Jesus alone and he will bring you home to be with him for all eternity!
Prayer: Holy Spirit, please give us the gift of wisdom, knowledge, insight and discernment, so we will not be deceived into believing in error. Please help us to walk and talk to you daily, so you can teach us all we need to know that we will be a blessing to Jesus and not a curse. Transform us daily into ever increasing Christ-likeness. Then when you, the Heavenly Father and Jesus look at us, you will only smile with delight.
