WE CAN TRUST THE BIBLE

I Samuel 17:4-7 A champion named Goliath, who was from Gath, came out of the Philistine camp. He was nine feet tall. He had a bronze helmet on his head and wore a coat of scale armor of bronze weighing 125 pounds; on his legs he wore bronze greaves, and a bronze javelin was slung on his back. His spear shaft was like a weaver’s rod, and its iron point weighed 15 pounds. His shield bearer went ahead of him.

People down through time have questioned the accuracy of the Bible. There have been very intelligent people that were highly respected in their field and community, but disclaimed the Bible as being simply made up or inaccurate stories passed down through time by simple minded people. They saw Goliath as a fictional character, because no one could be so tall.

But they were wrong, because in 1940 Robert Wadlow of Alton, Illinois was measured to be 8 feet 11.1 inches tall. Some questioned the idea that snakes had legs until God cursed them to crawl on their belly, but I have seen pictures in the National Geographic of snake skeletons that had the bone structure under their skin for legs and feet.. They had legs and feet, but they no longer come out from their skin. They are indeed cursed as God’s word says they are to crawl on their belly.

I can remember in the 1960’s where the science community mocked the idea that there was a world wide flood, yet today the world flood is no longer mentioned as a myth, but a fact. Many different cultures all over the world have it mentioned in their traditions, and actual evidence has been seen in soil all over the world. Just last week I was watching a program called “What on earth”. They use satellites to scan the earth for new and unexplained things. On one of their programs they could see old river beds that combined with the Euphrates and Tigris Rivers of today that formed the four headstreams that flowed from Eden just as the Bible said. Because of the higher levels of the ocean, it is thought that the actual sight of the Garden of Eden is now out in the gulf so man can not enter it again just as scripture says. Using satellites they have discovered Sodom and Gomorrah. After finding the possible location and doing some archaeological diggings, they discovered the two small cities that they described as looking as if they were hit with a nuclear weapon. Not only was much of of it leveled, but there were traces of fused stone that had to come about with only extreme heat.

In the past such Biblical personalities such as David, Solomon, Caiaphas and Pilate have been questioned as being real. With today's archaeology, they have all been verified and even the ossuary box for the High Priest Caiaphas was found in the 1990’s. It had on it the reference to Pontius Pilate.

In 2001 red rain fell in the southern Indian State of Kerala. In 2012 the waters in the ocean off of Australia turned red and then in 2013 a Texas lake turned blood-red. In 1965 and 1966 Time Magazine ran articles regarding that modern science had eliminated the need for religion to explain the natural world. Well, they were wrong then, and they are wrong now. In my 30 some years of being a Christian I have witnessed many miracles that could not be explained by any other means than God had to make them come about. Just a matter of a few weeks ago one of our grandsons was diagnosed by a doctor after many tests that he had an irregular heartbeat and an enlarged ventricle. After our families asked Jesus to heal him a cardiologist said he was just fine. Maybe Time Magazine might like to explain that away in natural science too? I don’t think so! Our God is not dead and we can trust his word!

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for giving us your word. No matter what the world says, as my good friend Arlie Neaville always says, “You always have the last word!” We love you Lord and trust your word.
