SATAN WANTS TO BE GOD - DO YOU?

Isaiah 14:12 How you have fallen from heaven, O morning star, son of the dawn! You have been cast down to the earth, you who once laid low the nations!

Jesus said in Luke 10:18-20, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions, and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you. However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.” It is interesting that not only did Jesus see Satan cast to earth, but Jesus remembered everything he experienced in heaven with God his Father and the Holy Spirit before coming to earth. John 1:1-3 says, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that was made.” Jesus made Satan!

Ezekiel 28:12b-17 says of him, “You were the model of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. You were in Eden, the garden of God; every precious stone adorned you: ruby topaz and emerald, chrysolite, onyx and jasper, sapphire, turquoise and beryl. Your settings and mountings were made of gold; on the day you were created they were prepared. You were anointed as a guardian cherub, for so I ordained you. You were on the holy mount of God; you walked among the fiery stones. You were blameless in your ways from the day you were created till wickedness was found in you. Through your widespread trade you were filled with violence, and you sinned. So I drove you in disgrace from the mount of God, and I expelled you, O guardian cherub, from among the fiery stones. Your heart became proud on account of your beauty, and you corrupted your wisdom because of your splendor. So I threw you to earth; I made a spectacle of you before kings.”

Often people think that Satan will be god over all that is in hell, but in reality he and all the fallen angels that left God to follow Satan will spend eternity in hell in torment like all the other people in hell that rejected Jesus. (Rev 20:10) Isaiah 14:9-17 tells a little about what it will be like in hell as Satan arrives. “The grave below is all astir to meet you at your coming; it rouses the spirits of the departed to greet you - all those who were leaders in the world; it makes them rise from their thrones - all those who were kings over the nations. They will all respond, they will say to you, ‘You also have become weak, a we are; you have become like us.’ All your pomp has been brought down to the grave, along with the noise of your harps; maggots are spread out beneath you and worms cover you. How you have fallen from heaven, O morning star, son of the dawn! You have been cast down to earth, you who once laid low the nations! You said in your heart, ‘I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God; I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly, on the utmost heights of the sacred mountain. I will ascend above the tops of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.’ but you are brought down to the grave, to the depths of the pit. Those who see you stare at you, they ponder your fate: ‘Is this the man who shook the earth and made kingdoms tremble, the man who made the world a desert, who overthrew its cities and would not let his captives go home?’”

How it must sadden the Lord to see how Satan who once was so beautiful, powerful and wonderful to have sinned against the Lord and fallen into such a terrible state. The thing is Satan and the fallen angels, that we call demons, know that they will be tormented in hell for all eternity for their sinfulness in their rebellion against God. In Matthew 8:29 a demon even confronts Jesus about coming to torment it before the appointed time. Even though they know this, they still refuse to repent of their sinfulness and seek forgiveness. Just like everyone in hell they have hardened their hearts towards God and only have hate towards Him.

Isaiah 14:13,14 is a verse that is know as the five I will’s of Satan. Although Satan was made by Jesus he wanted to become God. Satan’s declaration of I will certainly showed his pride and arrogance. Before I became born again the Holy Spirit showed me that I too had a spirit of self-righteous pride. I trusted in my good works to get me to heaven. The difference between Satan and myself was that I repented and asked for God’s forgiveness and in his mercy and grace he forgave me through the shed blood of Jesus.

Ever since Satan encouraged Adam and Eve in Gen 3:5 to sin and become like God, he has been doing it and will continue to do it until Jesus sends him and the fallen angels into the pit of hell. The thing is we can repent of following our carnal nature, and ask the Lord to set us free of it. We can be as Jesus where he constantly wanted to do his Heavenly Father’s will rather than his own.

There is only room enough in our heart for one God. The question for us is are we going to sit on the throne of our heart, or are we going to let Jesus? Are we going to tell God what we want and will do, or will we humbly live our lives trying to please God by doing as Jesus did and do the will of our Heavenly Father?

Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank you for creating us and giving us a free will, so we can love you. Please set us free of our carnal nature as we see in Romans 8:1-17. You are our Lord, Savior and God. Please help us to keep you that way for as long as we exist. We love you Jesus, and ask this in your holy name.
