BIRDS OF A FEATHER
Psalms 1:6 For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.
Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of inners or sit in the seat of mockers. But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. Like a tree planted in season and whose leaf tis fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers.
It is only good since that we don’t hang around with people that we know walk in deliberate sin and are in rebellion to God. My mom used to say that birds of a feather flock together. Sometimes those old saying carry a lot of information and weight. At first when she said this I thought, “What does birds have to do with me, and why does she mean by this.” Well, she must have been reading my face, because she said,” “Jim, the people you choose to be with, you will become like.” I did take this to heart, because I knew it only made since. I had chances to hang around with many kids and friends, but those I chose to be my close friends were good people. In fact they were better people than was. Over the years they only made me a better person and I am grateful for them and my mom’s advice.
We can have no greater friend than Jesus. I know that he is so much more than just a friend, but he chooses to call us his friend. He never leaves us or forsakes us. He is patient, loving, kind, merciful, gracious and faithful. The more we practice his presence in our life the more we will become like him. The Holy Spirit purges us of all unChrist-likeness and daily with ever increasing glory transforms us into his image. Then in the moment of our death, in a twinkling of an eyes we go to be with him and come into full perfection just like the one we love the most our Savior Jesus Christ.
Sometimes it seems like our transformation is taking forever and is so slow, but our day will come just as it has for all our brothers and sisters in Christ that have went before us. Try not to become discouraged when today didn’t end up like you would have hoped. There is tomorrow to do better, and if we die in our sleep all the better. When we stand before Jesus we will not see a frown on his face, but only a smile and eyes twinkling with love for us. Harvest will have come.
Stand firm in your love and trust in Jesus. Keep our eyes fixed on him as you walk through your day. Remember there is none of that are perfect. None of will be either until we at last stand before Jesus. Until that day rejoice the in Jesus we are the righteous of God. Not because of what we have done, but because of whose we are.
Prayer: We love you Jesus! We love you Jesus! We love you Jesus!
