GIFTS OF LOVE
Psalms 4:5 Offer right sacrifices and trust in the Lord.
It is sad but every since Cain and Able people have been having trouble with their sacrifices to the Lord. We give too much! We give too little! We give the wrong things, and in the wrong ways. We give with fear that God will not like our offering, and we give with pride. Sad to say we take a great blessing and honor in being able to give to the Lord and mess it all up. It is almost like loving someone. If we have to try too hard to love them, it just will not be true love. If we don’t show them love then sooner or later we will not be loved in return.
When I was a pastor I always tried to remind the laity before we would take up our offering that we were giving to the Lord as an expression of our love for him. It is just like giving Christmas presents. When we give because we love the person, we are always more excited about the gift we give than the one we get.
Right sacrifices or offerings should have one intention, and that is to bless the Lord with an expression of love. Don’t worry about how much you give to the Lord, but rather why you are doing it.
Prayer: Thank you Lord Jesus that we can give to you. You have need of nothing, yet you allow us to be blessed in our blessing we give you. We love you Jesus!
