INTO INFINITY WITH JESUS
Psalms 30:3 O Lord, you brought me up from the grave, you spared me from going down to the pit.
While we Christians believe in the resurrection of the dead, we still see through a glass dimly. How can it be, and what will it be like? We read how Lazarus was raised back to life but he would die again, and the Bible doesn’t tells us if he said anything of what being dead was like. Jesus raised from the dead and we see where he could change his appearance, appear and disappear. He descended into the abode of the dead to set those that had previously died, so their spirit could live, and that he ascended to sit at the right hand of God his Heavenly Father. We see in I Corinthians 15 that at our death as Christians we will in a twinkling of an eye be changed into a Christ-likeness that is perfect in every way. We will have a spiritual body that will have no more pain, sorrow or death, and that we will be with the Lord forever more. But what will it be like? Will we experience pain, fear, sorrow for leaving our loved ones behind? We just don’t know it all exactly. We can be assured that Jesus said that if he would go to prepare a place for us that he would come to take us back to be with him. While much may be still unknown for us concerning our own personal death, we can be assured that because we trust in Jesus he will be with us in death as his is in our life.
Our salvation of forgiveness and reconciliation is certainly a great mystery. How would or could God love us so much as to go through all he did for us? Of course the answer is his great love for us, but even that leaves us with, “Why would he love us so much when we don’t even love ourselves most of the time.”
God is good isn’t he? He is, he always has been and always will be! We should seek no greater reward than to be with him for as long as we exist. So, should we look forward to death? Well, maybe in all truthfulness maybe no, but we certainly shouldn’t let the thought of a momentary death experience keep us from the anxious excitement and expectation of being with Jesus for all eternity! Being with Jesus greatly surpass all of the good that we had in this life on earth by far. Our hope in our resurrection can and should spur us on to greater Christ-likeness and love for Jesus.
Prayer: Thank you Jesus for our hope in eternity with you after our physical death here on earth. You are such a good God and Savior to love us so much as to what to have us be with you for all eternity. We love you Jesus.
