DON’T LET YOUR SIN KEEP YOU FROM FORGIVENESS
Psalms 51:1-12 Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. For I know my transgressions, and my sin is alway before be. Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you are provoked right when you speak and justified when you judge. Surely I have been a sinner from birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me. Surely you desire truth in the inner parts; you teach me wisdom in the inmost place. Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones you have crushed rejoice. Hide your face from my sins and blot out all my iniquity. Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.
King David had committed adultery with Bathsheba, and not only that he had Bathsheba’s husband killed and the soldiers with him. David a man after God’s own heart had sinned and big time. Has this ever happened to you after you became a Christian? I hope not, and I pray it never happens to me or any other brother or sister in Christ. David knew his sin was not only against Bathsheba, her husband, the other men he had killed that was with him, his own wives and concubines, but maybe worse of all he knew he sinned against the Lord.
When we sin against the Lord after becoming a Christian or in David’s case as one that loved and trusted the Lord, we wonder how we can ever be forgive again. The answer of course is that Jesus is a good God that loves us very much, and he knows we are weak. If he didn’t he probably wouldn’t have come and died for us to begin with. And even if we may know this and his grace abounds for repentant, it is still hard to go before him after especially such great sin.
If you have had such sin in your life and haven’t gotten back with Jesus, I encourage you to do it right now. He will not turn away a broken spirit and a contrite heart. God will not despise you. Don’t let Satan, the powers of darkness or even yourself make you think otherwise. Like the prodigal son's father, the Lord will come running back to you also. The only sin he will not forgive you of is the one that you refuse to ask forgiveness for. Jesus is a wonderful God and Savior.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, we are sorry when we sin. Please help us to not sin, but when we do please help us to come running to you. Thank you for your great forgiveness and love for us. We ask this in your holy name.
