BUILDING OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH THE LORD
Psalms 52:8b-9 I trust in God’s unfailing love for ever and ever. I will praise you forever for what you have done; in your name I will hope, for your name is good. I will praise you in the presence of your saints.
Todays verses give us a good insight in how we should build our relationship with the Lord. If we are to have a consistent relationship we need to relate to the Lord in whom he is rather than what he does for us. If we perceive the Lord in how he answers our prayers our relationship with him will be up and down like a yo yo. This is why we need to know what the Bible says about the Lord. When we know his characteristics we can build our expectations correctly. We don’t have to wonder if today he is as loving as he was yesterday, or it he will be a patient tomorrow as he was today. And not only can we count on his unchanging nature, but we know how better relate to him. We can pray in line with what we know he wants and is likes. It would make no sense to ask God to tempt someone to sin, because God hates sin and tempts no one to do it. God would never forsake someone just because we asked him to do it. Once we know God’s characteristics or nature even our prayers begin to come into agreement with God’s desires. Because of this we can be assured that we can count on God’s love always being there to reach out to us. We don’t have to pull the petals off a flower wondering if God loves us today or not. God will always love us. He may not love everything we do, but he will always love us.
We should make it our practice to praise the Lord. He is worthy of praise. We know that the world is not praising the Lord, so if his children do not who will? God inhabits the praises of his children. The more we praise him, the more happy it makes us. and it encourages us to trust and love him more. Because we know God’s characteristics and all his many blessings, it only causes us to hope in him more. Our hope motivates us to have faith. Our faith is our putting into action what we say we believe. As we look to God’s unfailing love and his past blessings, our hope is a sure motivation and not just wishful thinking.
And because of all of the many blessings that the Lord brings to us it is only natural that we would want to share the good news of God’s love, faithfulness and kindness to those we love.
Like any relationship, our relationship takes work or effort on our part. And it all depends on us as to how much we want to get out of our relationship with the Lord. The Lord will not force himself on us, but will extend himself wonderfully and intimately to all who desire him through Jesus. Are you working to make your relationship with the Lord strong and special?
Prayer: Thank you Lord that you want to have a personal intimate relationship with us. We love you Lord. Please help us to know and love you with all our heart, soul, mind and strength. We ask this in Jesus’ holy name.
